Common questions

Is carbon steel hard to maintain?

Less than its reputation suggests. Don't soak it, don't put it in the dishwasher, and dry it thoroughly after washing. A quick rinse with hot water while the pan is still warm, a wipe dry, and a light coat of oil before storing — that's the full routine.

Will the nonstick coating peel over time?

There is no coating to peel — that's the point. The Forest pan's nonstick properties come entirely from the seasoned surface: layers of polymerized oil bonded to bare carbon steel. Nothing to flake, nothing to degrade, no chemicals to leach into food at high heat.

How does carbon steel compare to cast iron?

Same basic material, very different pan. Carbon steel has a higher iron‑to‑carbon ratio than cast iron, making it lighter and thinner — easier to maneuver and faster to heat up and cool down.
